Sunshower Community
A Group Homestead in the Santa Cruz Hills
Sunshower Community is a land-based community, rooted in earth stewardship and interpersonal connection. We live here to be close to nature, and close to the friends with whom we share this special place. Together, we care for the land and animals, and care for each other. For nearly 35 years, our community has grown, evolved, and seen many transitions. This year we are reforming, with a renewed intention to cultivate a rich sense of community.
We are Amy and Tim, a couple in our 60's. We have multiple living spaces available for rent to folks with whom we hope to share friendship and the community structure we outline on this website.
Nestled among fruit trees, organic vegetable gardens, and thriving California native plants, is a vibrant, cooperative home for humans, chickens, and goats alike. Today, anchored by long-time owners in their 60s and a dedicated group of renters, we continue to cultivate a beautiful, fun, and deeply nourishing environment to co-exist in.
We are If you are looking to settle down, steward the land, and build meaningful relationships with those around you, Sunshower Farm might be the place you call home.
Life on the Land
Living at Sunshower Farm means living in rhythm with nature and with one another. Our days and weeks are shaped by both practical stewardship and joyous communal connection:
Shared Care & Responsibilities
Maintaining a beautiful and functional community takes active, hands-on participation. We work together through regular communal chores, including:
- Animal Care: Tending to our goats and chickens.
- Gardening & Landscaping: Nurturing our organic vegetable plots, fruit orchards, and California native plant habitats.
- Compost & Soil Health: Tending to our rich compost systems to close the eco-loop.
- Spa & Amenities: Maintaining our shared spa and relaxation spaces.
- Clutter-Free Spaces: Keeping shared indoor and outdoor areas clean, clear, and welcoming for everyone.
Communal Gathering & Connection
Community isn't just about work—it’s about sharing life! We regularly come together for shared meals, which often flow into:
- Board games, jam sessions, and music-making.
- Deepening interpersonal relationships and heartfelt conversations.
- Group meetings to collaborate, reflect, and make consensus decisions.
Eco-Living & Community Alignment
Because we live directly connected to our local ecosystem, living here requires mindfulness and shared environmental values:
- Ecosystem Care: We are on a well and septic system and exclusively use green, non-toxic, eco-friendly products across the property.
- Dietary Culture: We are a meat-eating community (primarily chicken). While individual dietary choices are respected, our shared meals and kitchen culture reflect this.
Who We Are Looking For
Sunshower Farm is not a landing pad for frequent travelers or a place to pop in and out of. We are looking for community members who are eager to root down, settle in, and genuinely show up.
Ideal Candidates Possess:
- Desire for True Settlement: A genuine wish to live a land-based, eco-friendly lifestyle and stay rooted on this piece of land.
